Philothea: Introduction to the Devout Life
Holiness is not reserved for the cloister. Written for Christians who seek God amid the duties of ordinary life, Philothea: Introduction to the Devout Life offers a practical path from the first desire for devotion to firm resolution, growth in virtue, resistance to temptation and renewed spiritual strength.
About the author
St. Francis de Sales (1567–1622), Bishop of Geneva, was a tireless preacher and a gentle director of souls. The Introduction to the Devout Life, first published in 1609, grew out of his counsel to those he guided in the spiritual life. Blessed Pius IX declared him a Doctor of the Church in 1877.
